M-Scope - Mobile Endoscope 2.1

The M-Scope Mobile Endoscope application is designed for use in conjunction with the M-Scope kit, which consists of an adapter for connecting an endoscope to a portable LED light source. This setup facilitates the attachment of a smartphone to an endoscope, aiding in the capture and sharing of images during various medical examinations, including nasofibrolaryngoscopy, otoscopy, hysteroscopy, arthroscopy, bronchoscopy, as well as other video-endoscopic procedures.

The application offers intuitive control over the camera's brightness, focus, and zoom functionalities. Users can take photographs and record videos, with all files stored in a designated folder within the application interface. Additionally, there are five customizable profiles allowing users to save preferred settings for focus, zoom, and brightness. These profiles can be quickly loaded during subsequent procedures by selecting the desired preset and saving new parameters as needed. A help button provides direct access to the device's manual.

The endoscope adapter was developed and extensively tested at the Department of Otolaryngology and the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine at USP and holds a patent pending status. It was not designed to replace dedicated video-capture equipment nor to serve as a protective enclosure for the smartphone. The portable LED light source replaces traditional light sources and fiber optic cables with a single compact device; it is compatible with conventional fiber optic cables as well. The LED light source boasts a high color rendering index (CRI), an excellent cost-effectiveness ratio, and illumination levels comparable to xenon light sources. Its small size and lightweight construction, combined with ergonomic design that fits comfortably in the hand, enable quick and secure maneuvering during procedures.

The LED light source features a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and includes a charger. Like all LED lights emitting heat, prolonged use on skin or other tissues is not recommended. The M-Scope system also includes a quick-release endocoupler compatible with standard 32mm diameter devices, secured via a manual screw mechanism.

The endoscope adapter is compatible with any smartphone equipped with a high-resolution camera positioned on the opposite side of the display screen. The LED light is compatible with standard 9mm threaded connectors from brands such as Storz®, Olympus®, and Wolf®, facilitating integration with various optical systems.
